HELPING VULNERABLE CHILDREN TO THRIVE
VISION
We’re Here to Support Vulnerable Children and the People Who Help Them
To enable children living with poverty, without parents, in orphanages or on the streets, to regain the joys of childhood, access school, develop healthy relationships, and create meaningful lives.
OUR APPROACH
Trauma-informed practices, Evidence-based, Scientifically substantiated
Trauma-informed
Children who have experienced adversity, including neglect, poverty, abuse, and community violence, are vulnerable to traumatic responses, injuries to their developing bodies and brain. Trauma-informed practices are essential for helping such vulnerable children succeed in school, at home, and in their communities. Trauma-informed practices consist of four ingredients:
1 -- Realizing that trauma is commonly
experienced by children.
2 -- Recognizing the signatures of trauma, shaped
by the type of adversity, its timing, tenure,
severity, and predictability.
3 -- Responding to a child's traumatic experience by
providing the tools to aid in recovery and
building resilience.
4 -- Resisting re-traumatizing children and the
people who care for and teach them.
There are many great ways to help children. Our approach is to use those strategies that have been proven to be effective based on scientific evidence. When we work with vulnerable children, we use the following four-step process in designing strategies:
1-- Identify the nature of the problem or challenge within the environment of concern (e.g., home, school)
2-- Recommend evidence-based strategies that suit the problem.
3-- Provide detailed information about the process of implementing the strategy and data tools for assessment
4-- Review the evidence collected to assess effectiveness of the strategy.
